ABSTRACT

Corarito, Gregory (M.A. in Speech)

The History and Development of Television in Tulsa, Oklahoma (68 pp.-- Chapter XI)

Directed by Professor Edward Dumit

In 1949, television came to Tulsa, Oklahoma. This study was conducted to provide a record of how this medium has developed since that time. Much of the material has been derived from interviews with those who have taken part in this development. To document the facts that comprise such a history, contact with the actual participants was desired before they passed away or left the city. A concise historical record of each television station provided the basis for this thesis.

The final section of this report is devoted to the present status of television in Tulsa and possibilities for the future. Interesting predictions as stated by the present station managers are also included.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

This thesis would not have been possible without the assistance and co-operation of the personnel at all the Tulsa television stations. Their recall of events, names, dates, and facts provided the basis for this report.

Several principals residing out of the city were most gracious in returning questionnaires containing a wealth of information. Letters, newspaper clippings, pictures, and other valuable documents were given to the author in the hope that they would lend authenticity to this history .

Final thanks to Professor Edward Dumit. Without his skillful direction in the preparation of this thesis, much of the information included may well have been overlooked or misdirected.
